In Memoriam: Peter Damerow

In remembrance of our dear colleague Peter Damerow (1939–2011)

With Peter Damerow's passing, we have lost a dear friend, a colleague, and a visionary teacher. Peter was uncompromising and radical, both in the way he challenged his colleagues intellectually and in his loyalty and support. He has shaped countless careers, paved new paths for many research institutions, and led many colleagues to approach their research in completely innovative ways. His ideas will continue to influence and give impetus to publications for many years to come. Peter was an incredible force, both in his work and in his relationships; an indomitable spirit and at the same time one of the most cooperative people one could imagine. Newcomers could be taken aback by his directness, but he was always the first to make amends. We, who were fortunate enough to be close to him, are grateful. Peter Damerow leaves behind his wife Ingrid and their two daughters, Sophie and Julia. We offer our sincere condolences and unwavering support.
