The Institute offers scholars from all over the world the opportunity to stay at the MPIWG for their research without financial support by the Institute (for example, if they have third-party funding). Research stays serve to enhance scholarly dialogue and offer visitors the opportunity to make use of the Library holdings and other Institute services. Research stays are only possible for a specific, independent research project that is connected with the research being pursued by a department or research group.
If you are planning to include a research stay at the Institute in a research funding application, or if you would like to apply for a travel grant through a different funder (such as the DAAD or the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation), please contact the department or research group closest to your research topic well in advance.
Applications for research stays (as a Visiting Predoctoral Fellow, Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow, or Visiting Senior Research Fellow) must be made for a particular department or research group and submitted electronically in German or English through our application portal
It is possible to apply at any time; applications are considered two to three times a year (deadlines: May 1 and November 1, 23:59 CE(S)T). Please bear in mind that a research stay can begin four months after the deadline at the earliest. If a visa is required, this run-up period will be several months longer.
