Profile: Togo Tsukahara

Togo Tsukahara was born in Tokyo in 1961, studied chemistry at Tokyo Gakugei University, and received his PhD in 1993 from the Faculty of Medicine, Leiden University. He was a Postdoctoral fellow at the Needham Research Institute between 1990 and 1994, worked for Tokai University until 1999, and then for Kobe University, being appointed Professor of History and Philosophy of Science and STS at the Graduate School in 2007. His fields of interest are history of chemistry and geosciences: climate reconstruction, science and empires, and democratization of techno-science particularly after Japan’s post-311.

About the History of Science ON CALL Project

History of Science ON CALL aggregates and amplifies two streams of information—Research and Education—relevant to crises, including chronic disasters. The Research stream consists of short-format video interviews while the Education stream seeks to aggregate and introduce known resources and materials—scholarship and teaching tools—in order to amplify their reach.
