Emeritus Director of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Hans-Jörg Rheinberger, lectures at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry, Berlin. Aiming to contribute to an archeology of the Anthropocene, the initial question is whether the material change in the history of knowledge and thought surrounding the Anthropocene is interrelated. The work of Michel Serres on the nature contract is placed at the center of this discussion.
