The Pharmacologist’s Dilemma: Thalidomide, Abortion, and Medical Ethics in Women’s Healthcare

In this meeting, El Paso-based public and digital historian Saniya Ghanoui explores the history of Frances Kelsey and Sherri Chessen, two women who changed the course of drug safety and abortion rights in the twentieth century. This research is the basis for a forthcoming feature-length documentary film, Miss Sherri and the Pharmacologist, which traces the parallel stories of Chessen and Kelsey, and the connections between drug safety and reproductive health in the United States.
