- 14:00 to 16:00
- Meeting
- Dept. II
- Saniya Ghanoui, University of Texas at El Paso
In this meeting, El Paso-based public and digital historian Saniya Ghanoui explores the history of Frances Kelsey and Sherri Chessen, two women who changed the course of drug safety and abortion rights in the twentieth century. This research is the basis for a forthcoming feature-length documentary film, Miss Sherri and the Pharmacologist, which traces the parallel stories of Chessen and Kelsey, and the connections between drug safety and reproductive health in the United States.

About This Series
This event is part of the Living Knowledge Spring 2025 series.
This series of monthly Institute-wide meetings begins a collective exploration of the theory and practice of oral history and ethnography as powerful, multimodal research methods for recovering perspectives and experiences that are often absent from traditional archives. Together, we will engage with diverse forms of research and communication across a range of media and visit local sites of interest.
