Between Wonder and Evidence: The International Festival of Scientific and Educational Film

The International Festival of Scientific and Educational Film was held at the University of Padua in collaboration with the Venice Film Festival between 1956 and 1975. In this meeting, Aberdeen-based film and visual culture scholar Silvia Casini asks how the format of the festival spatialized knowledge along the two axes of wonder and evidence to challenge or reinforce epistemic boundaries between disciplines, expertise, institutions, and audiences.

About This Series

This event is part of the Living Knowledge Spring 2025 series.

This series of monthly Institute-wide meetings begins a collective exploration of the theory and practice of oral history and ethnography as powerful, multimodal research methods for recovering perspectives and experiences that are often absent from traditional archives. Together, we will engage with diverse forms of research and communication across a range of media and visit local sites of interest.
