- 14:00 to 15:30
- Research Workshop
- Lise Meitner Research Group
- Yishu Mao
In the global race for Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and development, China has an absolute edge in AI applications in everyday life ranging from facial recognition cameras to recommendation algorithms to autonomous vehicles. With regulatory lag and without an overarching ethical framework, the development of these technologies has been largely left to the tech companies and the hands of IT workers such as software engineers, programmers, and data scientists. In this research workshop, Mao Yishu will present a working paper analyzing these social groups’ discussions on AI ethics, in particular how their related interests, concerns and hopes are embedded in the overall socioeconomic context in contemporary China.

About This Series
The LMRG Research Workshop is a venue for members of the Lise Meitner Research Group, "China in the Global System of Science," to share work in progress on an ongoing basis. It is an opportunity to raise questions, discuss methodological challenges, or get feedback on preliminary conclusions. We aim to create a supportive atmosphere that combines rigorous criticism with genuine curiosity.
