About
Recent advances and a growing accessibility of the technology offer new use cases for the application of Virtual Reality in a wide area of fields. We would like to invite you to explore the potential of Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality in Humanities research. Seamless blending of physical and digital spaces may enable us to inspect architectural reconstructions within their original environment. We may gain have first-hand experiences operating ancient machinery or reproducing groundbreaking experiments. Recent efforts in 3D digitisation may turn out to be crucial to safeguarding cultural heritage, and Virtual Reality glasses allow us to study them in detail. This event is organized in cooperation of MPIWG and VR Business Club.
Schedule
15:10 Presentation of case studies in the scientific community
15:15 Introduction (VR Business Club and MPIWG)
15:30 Presentation & Talk (Sebastian Plesch, HTW Berlin)
16:00 Presentation & Talk (Adrian Azadvaten, Charioth VR): “Herausforderungen bei der Erstellung von VR Inhalten über geschichtliche Ereignisse”
16:30 Testing in Hand-On Area
17:30 Presentation (Carl White, Founder VR Meetups Berlin): “VR/AR Hotspots in Germany, in China and in Silicon Valley”
The "Hands-On" Area
VIRTUAL REALITY DEMOS: HTW Berlin - archaeo:vr / iresafety:vr
archaeo:vr is a Virtual Reality Toolkit for interacting with high-resolution 3D-scan data for landscape archaeology. The data is based on satellite imagery, drone flyovers, laser scans, photogrammetry and radar data, which are made perceptible in an integrated model by intuitive and explorative interaction techniques.
firesafety:vr is a Virtual Reality training application in which a real fire extinguisher is equipped with sensors and subsequently used as a controller in a virtual fire simulation.
VIRTUAL REALITY DEMO:The ChariotVR is a serious games approach where the user can playfully discover the invention of the first chariot in history. Only the development of the spoke wheel made the invention of the chariot possible which we know from famous chariot races of Rome and battles during the dynasty of Ramses the second. But the invention of the chariot happened somewhere else to be specific in the Eurasian Steppes through different iranian tribes and their migration to the middle east. Therefore, it is necessary for the player to solve various puzzles and riddles around the chariot to understand its origin. In chariotVR, the player retrospectively engages in the history of mankind, must understand these in interrelationships and apply them to new areas. Only then the player can unlock and reveal news paths of knowledge and enlightenment.
MIXED REALITY DEMO: The Startup Meshicon works on solutions for the new requirements of the industry 4.0 in mechanical engineering and production by developing and implementing software for the Microsoft HoloLens. As a holographic interface, their modular and scalable system is intended to simplify the visualization of machine data, commissioning and maintenance of machines as well as the communication of engineers via the Internet. The core of the development includes cloud-based software, which improves automation, integrates hand and voice recognition, facilitates machine calibration and enables secure interactions between man and machine.
